Speech & Drama Programme

Through the Online Speech & Drama Programme students will build confidence in self-expression through voice, movement and imagination. They will develop age appropriate skills in improvisation, characterisation, research and connecting with an audience. 

 

Students may take the Trinity examination or an internal examination at the end of the programme. Every student will receive a J’s Academy certificate on completion of the programme.

Learning

In-class practices, training, individual and group tasks such as, but not limited to Prose, Poetry,

Expressive Reading, Speeches, Improvisation, etc.

 

Transferable Skills

Subject skills like Vocal and Physical Performance Techniques. Soft skills include, but not limited to, Articulation, Memorising, Focus, Comprehension, Imagination, Confidently Expressing oneself in front of an Audience, etc.

 

Application

Opportunities to apply the skills in class and outside the classroom such as, but not limited to, In-class Performances, Improvisations, Performance-based Examinations, etc.

Overview

Programme Dates:

Intake 1

  • School Grade 2 - 3: 19 January - 12 April

  • School Grade 4 - 12: 5 January - 12 April

  • Tentative Digital Trinity Exam (optional): 13 - 19 April

  • School Grade 2 - 3 : 20 July - 11 October

  • School Grade 4 - 12: 6 July - 11 October

  • Tentative Digital Trinity Exam (optional): 12 - 18 October​

Programme Structure

  • 3-month programme with sessions held once a week

  • Every session is for 60 minutes 

  • The programme is designed to achieve predetermined objectives which will get covered over the duration of the course.

  • 80% attendance is mandatory, including being present for the dress rehearsal and the main stage show.

  • There is no prerequisite to join the programme - the learner will be grouped with their aged learners. Students are grouped age-wise to ensure age-appropriate learning. 

  • Each batch has up to 8 students led by 1 expert facilitator.

  • How will the programme be conducted?
    Sessions will be held live on Zoom, led by an experienced facilitator. The students will have to log in as per their class time.

  • How involved do parents need to be?
    Parents play an important supportive role. We encourage you to stay informed by checking your emails for notices from the Academy, ensure regular attendance and help the student practice at home when needed. However, all teaching and learning take place in class under the facilitator’s expertise.

  • How can I track my child’s progress?
    Student progress is shared through scheduled milestones and Parent-Teacher calls. However, it takes time to see tangible progress.
